Simple Food = Healthy Life

We all know processed food and fast food are not real food. Even when we eat them for convenience, deep inside we know. We struggle sometimes to keep that knowledge deep inside.

But we know.

And it is frustrating.

Frustrating because we have convenience all around us, but real health does not live in convenience or easy. It lives in real stuff. Real food. Real movement. Real relationships. And real stuff is not pre-packaged and super convenient.

Having said that, how convenient is chomping on an apple or snacking on carrots and celery?

The good news is, once you  lose the fake food and eat real food, holy cow do the flavors come alive. The only people who don’t believe that are the ones addicted to the salt and sugar flavors. And they are addicting. Seriously addicting.

Everyone who nods their head at that statement and smiles has learned that lovely truth. Real food is the B.E.S.T.

My new favorite addiction is roasted mushrooms. I don’t know why I haven’t roasted them before, but I haven’t. And now I cannot get enough of them!

Just wipe them off with a damp cloth, pile them on parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, drizzle with some vegetable broth and let them roast. Give them a stir in 15 minutes and pull out a bowl in another 15.

The flavor is so deep and rich. Yummmm.

I love other things  roasted, too. And sautéed and simmered.

But most of all, I love feeling lighter in my gut and more calm in my mind. Which are two benefits from pure vegetables that perhaps don’t get enough air time.

Want to walk with me to better health? Grab a shopping basket by the door and visit the produce section. Then grab some no-sodium or low-sodium vegetable broth (until you are ready to make your own) and do some chopping. In short order you will be standing at your counter with a few zucchini and a mandolin trying to decide how you are going to flavor up this bowl luscious noodles, too.

    Loving your posts!

  2. Can you come to my house and chop, chop, chop?? 🙂

  3. You are one step or a lot of steps ahead of me. You like to cook and I sure don’t. I used to like it but stopped about 20 years ago.
