Encourager is a Person

Encourager — one who encourages.

Pretty simple, right? If you encourage someone, you are an encourager.

Regardless of how you  would describe yourself, an encourager should be on the list.

I had the great delight of meeting Lisa recently. She is an inspiration and an encouragement. Primarily because of what she has accomplished, but also because of her desire to be an encourager.Clean for over a year

She is 468 days clean!! Yes, you read that correctly.

468 days! AND COUNTING!

We had a terrific chat. She decided to change her future and for the past 468 days her life is one long string of good choice after good decision after good choice.

She is finishing a 12 step program and working on her Bachelor’s. Goodness! Go, Lisa!

Plus she is back in church and singing on the worship team! WOW! Go, Lisa!

I asked if I could use her picture. “Yes!” came the quick reply. “I’m so proud of where I am.”

It is unbelievable to talk to someone who is taking charge of her future and walking towards a hard-earned goal.

It is inspiring to hear the passion and commitment in her words as well as witness the smile of deserved pride on her face.

And it is encouraging.

Just like a runner is encouraged by other runner’s stories and weight loss hustlers are encouraged by stories from people who have won the war. People will be encouraged by Lisa. And she plans to be around encouraging people who face her struggle every single day. Even now she is mentoring another lady ready to have 468 days be her story.

And she encouraged me. She has faced an addiction and won. 468 days (and counting).

And all I want to do is give up potato chips.
